MEMORIAL TUG-OF-WAR CHAMPIONSHIP

In 1893, six Embro area farmers won the World Tug-of-War Championship at the Chicago World's Fair.

This feat is commemorated annually at the Embro games through the Memorial Tug-of- War Championships and is now the largest Tug-of-War event in Canada, it attracts men's and women's teams from Canada and the US.

At our 2010 Games, the local Zorra teams will be challenging teams from neigbouring Nissouri and South Easthope. Also joining the competion will be teams coming from a distance including Dashwood (Bluewater), Peel Region, Toronto and a special welcome to teams from Wisconsin.

They remain a focal point for Scottish gatherings, and are represented at the Embro games through individual, as well as band competitions. Be sure to see the stirring spectacle of all bands playing as one during the Massed Bands parade at 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. (Competition results may be found on the Pipers and Pipe Band Society of Ontario website, http://www.ppbso.org/
